FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Each person struggling with addiction has their own unique needs, so success is measured based on the whether these unique needs are met. We are among the best rehabilitation centres in Kenya that treat each client individually by focussing on their unique needs. Most of the patients/families admitted at our rehab centre report great satisfaction with the program.

As one of the best rehabilitation centres in Kenya, we provide holistic addiction treatment. Addiction is usually the tip of the iceberg of many underlying mental health issues. These could be psychiatric such as bipolar disorder and anxiety disorders or psychological such as loss grief and childhood trauma. The focus on the root causes of addiction make our treatment program very effective.

Our program includes psychiatric, medical, and psychological assessments and management of addiction alongside the underlying mental health and physiological health issues. The treatment program includes a combination of medications, personal therapy, family therapy, and occupational therapy. We also provide daily mental health classes to equip our clients with the tools to overcome addiction.

Our inpatient program takes a minimum of 90 days. We encourage our clients to finish the 90 days because that timeframe is widely considered optimal for achieving lasting behavioral change and recovery from substance use or other serious mental health issues. Research shows better treatment outcomes for patients who complete the 90 days program. To maintain the top position as one of the best rehabilitation centres in Kenya, we only admit patients who commit to stay for at least 90 days.

Our programs are package-based. The total cost for a 90 days inpatient program is ksh200, 000. This amount caters for psychiatric assessments, 3 baseline lab tests, detox, psychological assessments, counselling, nursing care, and accommodation. We charge for the medications of patients with underlying medical/psychiatric conditions separately.

Primrose Rehab and Wellness is one of the best rehabilitation centres in Kenya that accept Social Health Authority (SHA) insurance cover. SHA only covers about ksh out of the total treatment cost of ksh200, 000. We also support several other private insurance providers.

We only provide shared accommodation, with a room for 2, 4, and 6. Shared accommodation is highly encouraged in addiction recovery given that some patients have suicidal thoughts and may need constant monitoring. Also, many people struggling with addiction have learned to self-isolate as they abuse substances. Being in shared accommodation helps break the negative self-isolating habits formed in active addiction. We rank among the best rehabs in Kenya because we provide a homely environment and encourage positive and supportive community culture. With such a culture most people don’t have a problem with shared accommodation.

Recovery from substance use disorders requires an overhaul of one’s belief system. It’s a tough journey that requires one to accept their own weaknesses and appeal to a higher power for help. This explains why the treatment outcome is generally positive for patients who gain the spiritual awakening. We offer the 12 steps program which aims to help people struggling with addiction gain spiritual awakening. Moreover, we are among the few rehabilitation centres in Kenya that provide the Journey to Freedom Program. We are among the faith-based rehabs in Kenya.

Our program includes structured psychoeducation classes that run from Monday to Friday. These are facilitated by our psychologists, psychiatrists and peer counsellors. We are also among the best rehabs in Kenya that provide joint programs with the Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) group. The AA meetings are held at our centre every Friday.

At Primrose Rehab and Wellness, we believe that healing the mind also involves taking care of the body and spirit. That’s why we offer a variety of recreational and wellness activities to help clients relax, rebuild healthy routines, and enjoy their recovery journey. Some of the entertainment activities we offer include a pool table, badminton, a wide variety of board games, a gym, structured aerobic sessions for fitness, and internet connected TV. These activities not only provide healthy outlets for stress but also promote social connection, physical health, and overall emotional well-being.

In line with best practices followed by top rehabilitation centres in Kenya and around the world, we limit phone use during treatment. This helps clients stay focused on their recovery without distractions from the outside world. It also encourages meaningful connection, self-reflection, and full participation in the healing process. However, we do allow supervised and scheduled phone access at certain points during the program, especially for staying in touch with close family members or handling important matters.

Your loved one only drinks heavily (binges) when they have money. That suggests a pattern of problematic drinking tied to access and opportunity, rather than constant daily use. This can still be a form of addiction, specifically binge drinking or alcohol use disorder (AUD), even if it doesn’t look like stereotypical “everyday” alcoholism. Read this article to learn about the definition of addiction.

Like with any other form of illness, there is no guarantee of success after addiction treatment. Each patient responds to treatment differently, and so the outcome of some patients may be negative despite the program being of high quality. Relapse doesn’t always mean that the patient hasn’t gained from the treatment program. The key determinant of success in treatment is insight or willingness to change. A client may have insight to change and still relapse. What matters the most is the patient’s ability to pick themselves up and continue with the recovery journey after relapse. And even when they do not have the insight to fight their addiction, don’t give up on them. Keep encouraging them. Many of the people that have overcome addiction succeeded after many attempts. Educate yourself about addiction to learn about how to support the person struggling with addiction without enabling them.

Addiction to alcohol or drugs is a serious and often life-threatening illness. It’s completely understandable that you’re feeling worried, you have every reason to be. Left untreated, addiction can lead to tragic outcomes, including the loss of life. Beyond the physical risks, it also deeply impacts a person’s relationships, work, and emotional wellbeing, often leaving families feeling overwhelmed and helpless. What makes addiction especially difficult is that it affects the part of the brain responsible for self-awareness and judgment. This means that your loved one might not realise they need help, or may not be willing to accept it. They may genuinely believe they’re in control when they’re not. That’s why your role as a family member is so important. Intervening on their behalf can be one of the most courageous and loving things you ever do. In Kenya, involuntary rehabilitation is legal, and in some cases, it can be a life-saving option. While your loved one might not understand your actions right away, and may even react with anger, over time, they often come to see that it was done out of deep love and concern. Helping someone into treatment isn’t about punishment. It’s about offering them a lifeline when they’re unable to reach for it themselves. It’s about giving them a chance to heal, and ultimately, to return to the person you know and love. In many cases, it becomes the turning point they look back on with gratitude. You are not alone, and your willingness to take action could save a life.
